Don’t throw out the solids from the final straining of the cider! The “apple sauce” that remains in the strainer is super tasty and a yummy treat for you or the kiddos!
Add all ingredients to a large crock pot and add water to the top of the apples. Cook on high for 6 hours or low for 10 hours. When apples and oranges are extremely soft, mash with potato masher or slotted spoon making sure the ingredients break down and the juice is rendered from the fruit.
Cook for an additional hour stirring occasionally mashing fruit against sides and bottom of crockpot. Once cook time is complete, use a fine mesh strainer to separate the chunks and juice, using a large bowl for the juice.
Add cinnamon sticks back into the strained juice and cool until room temperature or cover with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator overnight. Strain cider one more time to remove the cinnamon sticks and any other solids. Serve warm with cinnamon sticks or cold. Stores in refrigerator for up to 7 days.
