North Bay Produce

How We Work

Food Safety

North Bay Produce growers operate with the highest production standards and comply with all required food safety programs and industry best practices that promote the safe cultivation and distribution of fresh, nutritious, contaminant-free produce. Our growers regularly review and verify all current and new safety measures for adequacy and effectiveness, while also participating in third-party evaluations of their systems.

As a fresh produce importer, North Bay Produce strongly supports initiatives that promote physical product security during production, transportation and importation. North Bay Produce is a participant in the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT). North Bay Produce imported product is subject to all U.S. Customs Service import safety and security measures and must meet requirements set forth by the USDA and FDA before entering the United States.

North Bay Produce staff at each of our warehousing and packing facilities inspect the domestic and imported product for freshness and oversee that it is properly and securely handled and distributed. North Bay Produce utilizes a positive lot identification system that allows us to thoroughly track all of our produce from "field to fork.” Further in our preparedness, North Bay Produce and its growers have implemented a Product Recall Program which was created to quickly and effectively address any potentially hazardous or illegal products should they reach the market.

Social Responsibility

We believe adhering to the highest possible standards of integrity and ethical behavior is the only way to succeed, and so we have set the highest standards for the way North Bay Produce conducts business -- from corporate and social responsibility to sound business ethics. As such, because the conduct of North Bay Produce, its member growers, and other business partners can be attributed directly to North Bay Produce's reputation, our expectation is that we all will lawfully conduct our business with the same standards of integrity and ethical behavior.

This code of conduct for North Bay Produce, its grower members and suppliers is established to provide a guideline of expectations, highlighting some key laws and regulations, as well as outlining additional requirements that North Bay Produce expects its employees, grower member partners and suppliers to meet.

Standards

Since 1985, North Bay Produce has been a grower-owned, family-centered company dedicated to producing the best quality produce in the industry. Our customer commitment guarantees each product grown for North Bay has been carefully selected and picked with the highest regard for food safety and freshness while maintaining harmony with nature throughout the growing process.

As a family of growers, we understand our business is part of a larger society; therefore we work diligently to respond to the social needs of our farming community and the land that provides for us all. Every decision we make regarding our farming practices, packaging solutions, and transportation has the sustainability of our planet in mind. North Bay Produce represents farms that have been growing for generations. We make it a point to steward the land for generations to come.

Sustainability

Sustainability is defined by the Environmental Protection Agency as "an attempt to provide the best outcomes for the human and natural environments both now and into the indefinite future." Here at North Bay Produce, our daily decisions are based on some of the most basic principles or thoughts on sustainability.

Sustainability...

  • is an attempt to merge ecology and economy into one system.

  • means living a life of dignity in harmony with nature.

  • means renewing resources at a rate equal to or greater than the rate at which they are consumed.

  • means living within the resources of the planet without damaging the environment now or in the future.

  • means creating an economic system that provides for quality of life while renewing the environment and its resources.

  • is a community that resembles a living system where all of the resources (human, natural and economic) are renewed and in balance for perpetuity.

  • is creating a world where everyone can have fulfilling lives and enjoy a rich level of well-being within the limits of what nature can provide.

  • means taking the long-term view of how our actions effect future generations and making sure we don't deplete resources or cause pollution at rates faster than the earth is able to renew them.
